Summary of Areas for Improvement

As mentioned above, the candidates needed to provide more analysis in order to gain Distinctions. It is not enough to describe their lessons and say they have incorporated prior knowledge and active learning approaches without saying why they have done so. The candidates also need to refer to all of the major learning theories and say why some are inappropriate to their teaching and discuss their weaknesses rather than just deciding that constructivism is the theory to adopt.

Summary of Highlights

All candidates submitted very good observation feedback forms in Unit 1. It was clear that they had been well-briefed in what elements were important in a successful lesson and they were able to recognise these during their observation and then go on to employ them in their own lessons. It was also evident that the candidates had learnt a great deal during their studies, and
were keen to employ this new knowledge in their future teaching.
